What Happened to Torey Krug St. Louis Blues Defenseman,Rumored to Miss Next Year Season Because Left Ankle Injury

--

POC, OTONITY – St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug has been diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and may miss the 2024-25 season if surgery is required, the team announced Tuesday.

Because of this, Krug will undergo a re-evaluation in six to eight weeks, around the start of training camp, to determine if surgery is necessary. During this period, he will be treated with non-surgical methods and is currently listed as out indefinitely.

The team indicated that this condition is “a cumulative result of a bone fracture suffered earlier in his playing career.” Krug played 77 games in the 2023-24 season, the most since his 2016-17 stint with the Boston Bruins, averaging 21 minutes and 57 seconds of ice time per game, his second-highest career average.

He tallied four goals and 39 points but ended with a team-worst minus-31 rating. Over the last two seasons, he has a combined minus-57 rating, in stark contrast to his plus-34 rating in his first two seasons with the Blues.

Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 194 pounds, the 13-year NHL veteran has been the subject of trade speculation this offseason, especially after he invoked his no-trade clause to prevent a move to the Philadelphia Flyers last year.
