No Man's Sky Patch Notes Update 5.0 on July 18 2024, Maintenance Today Complete of Alien Bugs

--

Poconity.com - No Man's Sky is approaching its eighth anniversary and it's clear that the open world survival sim is not slowing down. A cavalcade of free updates continues to transform the game from what it once was at launch, and the latest of them is no different.

Today, Hello Games revealed Worlds Part 1, a complete overhaul of planetary weather, which comes alongside a major balancing update and a new expedition where the community will collectively fight against the threat of alien insects.

Hello Games is hard at work on a brand new open world the size of the actual Earth, and yet the siren song of the studio's initially disastrous (and subsequently more than redeemed) space simulator keeps pulling it back after multiple updates.

No Man's Sky Update 5.0 is here, and it brings improvements to sky and cloud rendering, water rendering, general engine performance, planetary variation, environmental effects, creature additions, bug fixes and quality of life updates.

You can expect more detailed and realistic visuals, improved gameplay mechanics and new content to explore throughout the universe. Read the full patch notes below.

Instead of a universal reset as some predicted, Hello Games is calling this a “universal update”. Here's a breakdown of some of the biggest changes to how No Man's Sky generates planets and what players experience on them:

  • New water technology for waves and reflections
  • Waves are dynamic and will react to wind
  • Ships can land on water
  • New cloud tech for detailed skies with changing weather conditions
  • Volumetrics and atmospherics on planet surfaces for rolling fog, rain, blizzards, lava sparks, and other phenomenon
  • Weather systems that interact and develop in real time as players explore
  • New biomes and more creatures to discover with more variety, all of which can become pets and mounts

Along with this overhaul, No Man's Sky will also launch a new expedition that revolves around fighting alien insects. Murray describes it as “Starship Troopers-inspired” and says that players' battle against these insects across the new planets they explore will be “community-driven” and come with a new heavy armor mech that has a flamethrower instead of an arm. It sounds like the unofficial Helldivers 2 crossover that no one expected, and also like a great idea for a new mech strategy in Arrowhead's hit shooter.
