The group, purportedly based in Russia, elaborated on their hacking methods and motivations. "Disney became our target due to their handling of artist contracts, their approach to AI, and their disregard for consumers," the email continued. "We released the data because suing would be pointless. If we told Disney, 'We have all your Slack data,' they would immediately lock down and try to eliminate us. In a confrontation, it's best to strike first."

The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported the incident, has reviewed some of the files reportedly leaked by Nullbulge. These files include conversations about managing Disney's corporate website, software development, job candidate assessments, leadership programs at ESPN, and employee dog photos, with data tracing back to at least 2019.
A Disney spokesperson stated, "Disney is investigating this matter."
Given the vast scope of Disney's business, including film and television studios like Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, streaming services such as Disney+ and Hulu, cable networks like ESPN, and theme parks, it's understandable that this breach has caused significant concern.
This incident echoes the infamous Sony Pictures hack a decade ago, which remains one of the most significant corporate data breaches in U.S. history. That breach exposed years of emails, causing widespread disruption in the entertainment industry. High-profile figures like Angelina Jolie, Rooney Mara, and even President Barack Obama were mentioned in leaked private communications, and the aftermath saw Sony's then co-CEO Amy Pascal resign.
The studio was left incapacitated for days, unable to use technology, forcing departments like accounting to process payroll manually.
